It is widely known that today’s college students are tech savvy and view their mobile phone as a life line. Students at a university in Pennsylvania are experiencing first-hand how InstantPHR can turn any mobile device into a literal life saver.
Get Real Health client, KeyHIE, is partnering with a local university in Pennsylvania on a ground breaking case study wherein students utilize InstantPHR’s patient portal to help manage their care.
Kim Chaundy, KeyHIE’s Operations Director, states “Our slogan has always been information where you need it, when you need it and now we are bringing that to a younger generation.”
The patient portal will allow students to request appointments at the campus infirmary online. By simply sending a direct message to the infirmary stating the need and availability, medical staff makes an appointment and replies to the student with the time and date.
The second aspect of the partnership benefits students who study abroad. By uploading a full medical profile into InstantPHR, students have immediate access to vital health data should they have an emergency while out of the country.
Chaundy made note of a mother who was sending a child with a heart condition abroad. Just knowing that doctors could tap into that database and have a full picture of her daughter’s ailment made it much easier to put her on a plane.
Most importantly, InstantPHR performs these functions securely. Only those who have been granted access can view a student’s data.
Chaundy adds, “We are keeping our community feeling safe and confident that no matter where they are they have the information they need.”
