In the fourth grade Robin Wiener’s teachers said she shouldn’t expect to achieve much in life because she was considered too slow to learn anything. Today she is the president of Get Real Health, a successful and fast-growing global health IT company and was just invited to the White House to share her industry expertise. Wiener told her compelling story of overcoming personal challenges on the popular radio show Late Night Health.
Talking with host Mark Alyn, Wiener explained how her mother butted heads with elementary school faculty over her daughter’s learning disabilities which were eventually diagnosed as dyslexia. Her mother enrolled her in special speech therapy classes and encouraged Robin to get involved with music and theater.
“Mom showed me examples of people from history, like Einstein, who overcame learning disabilities to achieve great things. And she made sure none of us thought differently about our own prospects in life, telling us that we could do whatever we wanted to do if we’d just work hard at it,” said Wiener. The support and work ethic instilled in her by her family motivated her to break through the limitations imposed by her dyslexia and resulting speech problems.
Wiener went on to go to college, embark on a career and ultimately founded Get Real Health. Last month she was invited to the White House to participate in an exclusive Health IT Roundtable that explored opportunities in the international trade and export of U.S. health information technology, products and services.
Today Get Real Health is an award-winning global health information technology pioneer specializing in patient engagement and connected care solutions. With U.S. Federal healthcare IT requirements, like Meaningful Use, on the horizon, doctors, hospitals, and health care providers are accelerating the process of digitizing patient health records and giving patients online access to their health records. Get Real Health’s InstantPHRâ„¢ product was one of the first products to be certified for the key patient-centric criteria required for eligible providers to qualify for Meaningful Use incentive payments.
