Postpartum Depression (PPD) Most Common Side-Effect of Birth

October 21, 2015Christina Nash

Approximately 1 in 7 new mothers suffer from some type of Postpartum Depression (PPD). Sadly, an overwhelming number of these women are too embarrassed or overwhelmed to seek treatment.

Medical experts tout the benefits of simple psychiatric screenings for pregnant and postpartum women, in particular those with a history of depression.

Get Real Health advocates for those suffering from mental disorders—both episodic and chronic—by developing tools to help manage psychiatric care outside facility walls.

Our InstantPHR product features a survey function that allows clients to customize a mental health screening. Additonally, we offer journals for tracking mood, sleep and eating patterns and the ability to personalize journaling options. Other tools such as reminders and alerts for medications and appointments and direct messaging capabilities also aid patients in monitoring conditions like postpartum depression.

Our success with client Lawson’s Smart Record application, powered through our InstantPHR platform, is proof that user-friendly tools can empower patients to monitor psychiatric symptoms on their own.

Postpartum depression recently came to the forefront when actress Hayden Panetierre revealed she was seeking treatment for the disorder. Get Real Health applauds every woman world-wide who comes forward and shares their personal experience as a means of bringing attention and a solution to this debilitating ailment.
