Holiday Weight Gain Takes a Bite Out of Fun

December 2, 2015Christina Nash

Don’t Take a Holiday from Health During the Holidays

holiday-weight-gainThe holidays are a time to count our blessings and celebrate with family and friends. With all this merriment, it’s easy to overlook counting calories which is just as important.

Studies estimate that Americans gain an average of 1 to 3 pounds over the holidays (the period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day).  The statistics are even grimmer for overweight individuals whom typically gain 5 pounds or more.

These numbers are alarming when you consider the fact that this increase is over the period of approximately a month.

One of the most effective tools for managing gatherings and practicing moderation is tracking food and exercise. In fact, a Kaiser Permanente Study involving 1,600 individuals discovered that subjects maintaining a food journal lost twice as much weight over a six month period.

This is where InstantPHR comes in.

InstantPHR has a diet and exercise widget that lets you set goals, log calories and exercise and upload data from fitness trackers.

You can work in conjunction with your physician to set realistic calorie, activity and weight goals and utilize InstantPHR to achieve them. Even during the dreaded holidays.

Those who simply want to maintain their current weight will benefit from this approach as well. As sleep patterns are directly related to food and exercise trends, it’s wise to take advantage of the journal function within InstantPHR to track daily sleep. Especially in December when the calendar gets busier!

Now, it’s time to start planning a different New Year’s resolution. With InstantPHR, you will be well on your way to improving eating and exercise habits when you usher in 2016.
