Get Real Health is proud to announce that the Blue Button + data exchange standard is now available in our award-winning InstantPHR™ patient engagement software platform. Blue Button has been a driving force that is promoting consumer access to their health data, thanks in large part to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and dedicated private sector stakeholders, such as Get Real Health. This private-public collaboration, has transformed Blue Button into a national symbol for patients’ ability to easily and securely access their health data electronically.
Get Real Health’s first iteration of Blue Button led to the company receiving an award from ONC for the Blue Button Mash Up Challenge, which prompted vendors to create user friendly interfaces to download and display Blue Button data. Since then, ONC and dedicated members of the Standards and Interoperability’s Blue Button + Initiative have pushed Blue Button to new levels.
While Blue Button is the symbol for access to personal data, Blue Button + is the ability to get records in human-readable and machine-readable format and to share that data at the consumers’ discretion. This system, built on the standards-based CCDA over DIRECT protocol, quickens the speed of sending data and vastly expands accessibility for patients, allowing them to retrieve information from whenever and wherever they need it.
As an untethered, technology-agnostic, patient engagement software application vendor, Get Real Health fully supports this cost effective, easy to implement approach to a nationwide standard of health information sharing.
Since Blue Button+ launched, the rapid industry-wide adoption of this standard has accelerated the initiative. In the video below, Get Real Health’s CEO Mark Heaney expresses how excited the health IT community is about the launching of Blue Button+, stating that the ability of doctors to give their patients easier access to their personal, secure health history was a critical step in creating better patient engagement.
