Diabetes Awareness Month Focuses on Eating Well

November 19, 2015Christina Nash

adm-2015-banner-300x250-african-americanThe American Diabetes Association estimates that nearly 10% of our population suffers from diabetes and further predicts that by 2050, diabetes will affect a staggering 1 in 3 Americans. Additionally, some 86 million Americans currently live with prediabetes and risk developing Type 2 diabetes at some point in their lifetime

These are numbers that cannot be ignored. Thus the importance of Diabetes Awareness Month as a means of educating, preventing and managing diabetes.

Diabetes Awareness Month kicked off on November 1st with the theme “Eat Well, America!” The Association takes this time to call attention to this rising chronic condition through initiatives and outreach.

The thrust of the campaign is to assist people with their daily caloric intake and balance of foods in order to curb diabetes. The website is featuring healthy recipes all month long with each week dedicated to a particular meal.

For instance, November 17th was National Healthy Lunch Day intended to help kids and adults eat a balanced lunch from the first bite to the last.

The daily burden of diabetes lies in the tracking of blood glucose and dietary intake. Our InstantPHR product addresses this and more with alerts for out of range readings and educational materials.

This product was designed to assist patients and physicians in managing chronic conditions. The key to InstantPHR as it relates to diabetes is its ability to accept readings from glucometers.

Our advanced technology then takes those readings and creates charts and graphs so easy to interpret that a lay person can instantly see if there is a problem.

Utilizing tools like InstantPHR can be the first step in controlling chronic conditions, like diabetes and lowering the instances over time.
